SPRING 2010 TREND REPORT
From neutrals and feathers to peek-a-boo mesh panels and schoolgirl chic, here’s what you’ll be wearing next season, hot off the runways of fashion week.
NEUTRAL TONES
The aesthetic here is simple, clean, and elegant — dresses, in particular, were the focus of this pared-down look.

PEEK-A-BOO
Exposed flesh was in no short supply on the runways this week. Designers chose to use cut-outs, slits, mesh, lace, and more to give a sexy little peek at the skin beneath their ornate pieces.

METALLICS
Recession? What recession? It was disco fever across many of the spring runways, with designers banking on glitz, sparkle, and shimmer to distract consumers’ attention away from retail’s continuing woes.

FEATHERS
Dovetailing with the “who cares about the recession” theme, designers took a renewed interest in feathers for spring — of all colors and textures. The frothy look added a playful levity to the runways, not unlike taking part in a fantastic carnival.

Back-to-school season may be September, but the spring collections were packed with knee socks, preppy stripes, gym clothes, and academic blazers.
LEISURE SUITS
Fall 2009 brought the “power suit” back to the foreground of fashion, but Spring 2010 heralds the return of leisure dressing — attire fit for jet-setters and effortlessly put-together cool kids.

Trend Report Fall/Winter 09 - Here’s your fall fashion forecast for 2009. Better take notes!
Broad Shoulders
Broad shoulders are making a come back in every way
Whether it’s epaulets or those dreaded
shoulder pads, you can easily pull the look off. Try a structered blazer for a less severe look.
Leather
Leather this year is going to be hot. But instead of looking motorcycle, it’s being paired
with tweeds, fur, and dresses.
Neon Colors
Bright colors do make through into the fall, which is usually very rare.
Native American/Hippie Spirit
I guess with the Woodstock 40th anniversary, everyone’s getting in the spirit, even designers.
Fringe will carry through into the fall and the bell bottoms will be making a return as well.
And expect to see it become more feminime with flow dresses and tops.
Girly Grunge
Those plaid flannel shirts and Doc Martens we all knew and loved
will be coming back with splashes of pinks purples.
Denim
Denim is everywhere and will be in every shape and form.
It’ll be ripped, patched, dyed, and made into other forms of clothing. (Boots and bustiers.)
Decorative Hosiery
Speaking of tights, hosiery is going to be more “elaborate” if you will.
It’s going to decked out in sequins and graphic prints.
Metallics and Sparkle
Metallics still reign and we will be seeing rhinestones on everything.
Origami, pleats and ruffles.
Everything from cocktail dresses to jackets to everyday t-shirts will have origami trim on them.
Pants will be high-waisted and pleated and there will be ruffles on shoulders.
